Context

After recognising that Imtech already had a great safety culture, they approached Alkoomi to partner them in reaching their ambition to become world class in safety as part of their ‘Changing Gear’ programme. Alkoomi carried out a comprehensive safety culture survey providing Imtech with a clear insight into the maturity of the safety culture in each corner of the wider Imtech Group, which led to the delivery in 2021 of the initial phase of the Safety Leadership and Culture Change programme; overcoming the challenges presented by coronavirus.

Following the initial phase, Alkoomi continued to work with the Imtech Engineering Services UK business unit as part of Changing Gear; culminating in the roll-out and engagement phase to the ES organisation. As part of the continued support and coaching Alkoomi provide, Imtech ES tasked Alkoomi with developing a tool to support Imtech’s management and supervisors with implementing the new Setting People to Work Management Process for its Supervision.

Client & Alkoomi approach

Working collaboratively with Imtech ES and Alkoomi’s partners ‘REACT Acting for Business’, a demonstrative film was developed presenting ‘Setting People to Work’: worst and best practices. Using scripts developed on work briefing scenarios, with the use of actors and a live construction environment, a ‘Setting to work Task Briefing Training’ film was produced. The intention to show the film to supervisors across the contractors and supply chain for Imtech ES and the wider organisation as a continuation of the Changing Gear programme and best practice.

Outcomes and the London 2012 Legacy

Through the Changing Gear programme, 250 Imtech ES supervisors have participated in the Safety Leadership and Culture Change programme. The ‘Setting to work Task Briefing Training’ film provides an endless tool for Imtech ES to use as a refresher in support of the valuable skills and commitment already harnessed through the Changing Gear programme, it further reinforces and reminds supervisors of the importance of everyone going home safe every day.

“Like many organisations, the perception of our safety performance we very good, 95% positive response to staff and client surveys, ROSPA awards and many testimonials. However, a deeper analysis of our safety performance, including high potential incidents, revealed that we were on the ‘safety plateau’ with an ongoing risk of a serious safety incident. Alkoomi worked in partnership with our senior leadership team to develop and implement our safety culture change programme. By combining Alkoomi’s considerable knowledge and experience in psychological safety with a culture survey of our organisation, Alkoomi were able to develop a bespoke programme of engagement which had a positive impact on all our employees. We are now 2 years into our journey and with the support of Alkoomi we have seen tangible improvements in both our leading and lagging safety indicators.”
